Deep Sea Fishing for Fun!
I don't know what you people do for fun but I'm crazy on sports fishing since I was a little kid. I guess this comes down from the bloodline since my father was also a fishing addict and my aunt is European Champion on Sports Fishing back in the days. Recently I was introduced to Deep Sea Fishing, something that I havenâ??t experienced before as I was mainly doing freshwater fishing in lakes and rivers.
The main difference is that in Freshwater fishing you catch about 10 to 20 pounds fishes, and on deep sea fishing you don't go for fish .. it can be called beast fishing ... each fish weights about 50-150 pounds and this makes this type of fishing really the most extreme type of fishing I've encountered yet.
Two weeks ago I went COD fishing with the Viking Starship from Montauk, NY. We went about 10 miles deep but I was really hoping we go deeper so we won't have to bother with the stinkin'?? sharks that are taking over the shoreline. I don't know if you tried to go shore fishing lately but it's full with the so called DOG sharks. Those sharks are multiplying like crazy and are eating all the valuable fish in the coastline and this really sucks. In order to get rid of them you have to go really deep about 40-50 miles so you can catch some good quality/size fish. Even if you get some shark on this deep water the shark wont be less than 50-100 pounds so who cares .. the fun is what fishermen go for
Speaking about fun. If you go to the supermarket you can buy the same fish that we catch (almost as fresh as the one we get) on a pretty nice price -- about 40-50 USD, but fishermen are different type of breed. They have to go buy the best equipment ($600), rent or charter a boat ($100-$200) and prey to catch some fish which will be worth not more than $50-100 USD. But the main thing is fun. We go to spend some nice time in the sea, hopefully catch some fish and have fun. Smoke some nice cigar, drink some beer .. that's what it counts. Money come and go .. but that's what you can remember in the days.
As a good example of bad luck last fall I went Deep Sea Fishing for Tuna. I spent $300 for the boat and about $200 on the ship for food and etc. This was 2 days trip and it took us 6 hours to go the the fishing spot and then 6 hours to go back. The thing was that the weather was great, but it was full moon and the fish didn't want to eat! How the hell was I going to know that in full moon Tuna doesn't eat! Shush .. On a boat full of people only 3 tunas were caught and that was definitely what I classify as bad luck!
This upcoming weekend I'm going for COD again but I'm going in New Jersey instead of Montauk. Lets see if I'm going to be lucky-er there.
Cheers

The weather was great and the fishing was even better -- we caught about 30-40 ling cods and I'm really happy with the outcome. There is so much fish at home that we are giving it to friends and neighbours. I hope next fishing will be also that good!
